Sydney Ports wins security award

Sydney Ports Corporation has won the Australian Shipping & Transport Innovation in Security Award for 2009.

Sydney Ports won the industry prize for its visitor management solution, implemented by security technology supplier ID Warehouse.

The solution is based around PassagePoint's advanced visitor management application and TEMPBadge self-expiry badges.

It enables Sydney Ports to electronically register and track all contractors and visitors on its premises at all times, streamlining processes, saving money and assisting with Office of Transport Security compliance.

The security benefits of the system for Sydney Ports are three-fold:
- Maritime Security Industry Card (MSIC) accreditation is enforceable due to the system's strong audit trail, reducing the chance of port access to unverified individuals;

- There is a real-time record of all contractors on-site in case a security issue arises, or management need to create an emergency evacuation list; and

- Security staff can immediately and accurately determine whether a contractor is authorised to be at Sydney Ports on a specific day and in a specific security area, making breaches obvious.
