Vic appoints fire commissioner

The Victorian Government has appointed Craig Lapsley as the state's first fire commissioner.

Mr Lapsley will head Victoria's three fire services and will be the highest authority on days of extreme bushfire danger.

The appointment comes after the Bushfires Royal Commission found there was no single agency or individual in charge on Black Saturday.

Mr Lapsley is currently the Director of Emergency Management for the Department of Human Services and is an Independent Director of APCO Australasia.
